Prospective Families

At Deerwood Elementary we provide an exceptional educational environment in which pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students thrive and grow.

We believe in working collaboratively with our parents and families and focusing on teaching and learning that addresses the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of our students. As a pre-K through 5 elementary building we are focused on the unique developmental stages of our students. Deerwood staff are dedicated to providing a positive school climate, emphasizing a challenging curriculum, and building strong learning partnerships with all students and families.

School and Community

Deerwood Elementary is an Eagan neighborhood school north of Diffley Road and west of Pilot Knob Road, attached to Black Hawk Middle School. As an early start elementary school in District 196, student hours are 7:45 am through 2:05 pm.

At Deerwood Elementary, families will see a strong commitment to growth—academic, social, and emotional—for every child. Our school community prioritizes student well-being through Conscious Discipline, which serves as a foundational approach in how we communicate, establish routines, and support students’ self-awareness and regulation. As you walk through our building, you will observe engaged learners, caring and collaborative staff, and a positive, structured environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged. Classrooms reflect a student-centered approach to learning, with meaningful instruction, visible student work, and a shared focus on helping every child grow and thrive.
