When it comes to high school science projects, few reach the heights achieved by a group of students at the School of Environmental Studies (SES), a District 196 magnet school for high school juniors and seniors.
Competing in NASA’s prestigious TechRise Student Challenge, these ambitious students spent months designing, coding, and building a custom experiment that will be sent soaring into microgravity.

District 196 is celebrating 36 high school seniors who earned recognition in the 2026-27 National Merit Scholarship Program for scoring among the top 5% in the nation on the PSAT, a standardized national exam taken during the junior year in preparation for college entrance exams.
